So far, I have only been able to lure one American friend to visit G-Town. Shocking, but Guetersloh is not on the list of top ten tourist attractions in Europe.
At the very least, Joey, Mani and I represent true fabulousness. Who needs anything more?
How about this?
Americans always find German day spas very entertaining. What's not to love? Cocktails in and around the pool, hot stone massages and old naked people running loose, sweating in the sauna and slapping each other on the backsides to "improve circulation" (yeah, right). On second thought, maybe that isn't such a great idea for a family adventure . . .
If we manage to borrow enough bikes from the neighbors, we can do the grand tour: European fantasy half-timber towns and moated castles. There's a great park and botanical gardens, conviniently located around the corner from a friend's farmhouse. If we're lucky, that means an invitation for Kaffee and Kuchen (if that plan fails, yummy tortes are also to be had at the chi chi Palmenhaus Cafe). Nearby, there are two lovely pools for small kids, one for the Alpha Mommies and one for the the less ambitious (= me).
A bit further away is another huge park, with an "adventure pool" and wonderful playground(s) for the kids. If I can get over my abivalence for zoos, there's also a much celebrated animal adventure place.
That's it for now. I'm off to have a tiny glass of one of the other great reasons to visit Germany - great wines (and did I also mention that we live in the party neighborhood? The World Cup starts soon, and that's all we need to have perpetual celebrations and barbecues until mid-July).
